Currently, major improvements are being made to the Community Arts building. Renovations to the Café area including the bar and flooring are current works in progress. The Art Library has been growing with various books related to the "Arts" in general.

The Premier of Todd Bailey's The Moretti House was attended by nearly 100 people. The horror/mystery film was well received by those in attendance. We hope to show it again in the future for those who missed it.

The reenactment of "The True Story: as it was told to me", drew an audience of approximately 150 to see Ethel Stroman in the role of Aunt Rachael and Gary Wilson in the role of Mark Twain. Jim Hare Emceed in his top hat and tails.

Approximately 130 people attended the first anniversary party of Community Arts in the Langdon-Pratt Mansion. Holiday Inn provided refreshments for the Chamber Blender that took place in the early evening and the Katherine Aelias Band provide the entertainment for the evening. Tours were provided so those who were familiar with the condition of the building when we took possession could see our progress. In attendence were Frank and Adele LaViola (Founders), Sharon Mitchell and John Craford (Founders), and our benefactor Francis Przygoda (Life Time Benefactor).

The Katherine Aelias Band will play from 7-9 p.m. on May 30th at the Anniversary Celebration at the Langdon-Pratt Mansion.

Community Arts / Southern Tier Organization of Photographers exibit opened with photographs from 12 photographers. The exhibit will be open Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

An estimated 300 children, parents and grandparents attended the "Little Masters" art show where the children from Happy House Nursery School had to create an animal.

Community Arts has arranged with Elmira Downtown Development to have artist booths at the Wisner Market this coming summer. We expect several of our artists will participate in this new opportunity to show off the artistic talent we have in the area. The market runs from June 5th through September 25th from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Filming started yesterday on Todd Bailey's "The Moretti House" mystery movie. The inspiration and backdrop of the movie's plot centers on the Langdon-Pratt Mansion. Click on the "movie" link to see a WENY news report on the project.

Approximately 75 artist and art lovers attended the "Unique Perspectives" Exhibit Opening at the Langdon-Pratt Mansion. Those present were treated to a wonderful selection of deserts, good conversation and the viewing of wonderful work by many local women artists. The exhibit is open daily from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. through March 3rd.

Peggy Grover is the January People's Choice winner with her engraved rock of the prehistoric fish "Coelecanth". Peggy wins $100 for her effort and thanks everyone who voted for her entry.

Community Arts recently received a $10,000 grant from the Junior League of Greater Elmira-Corning to prepare and conduct art education classes.

Southern Tier Organization of Photographers has joined Community Arts as a partner. As such, future STOP meetings will be held at the Langdon-Pratt Mansion. Meetings are held the last Tuesday of every month starting at 7:00 p.m. Any supporter of Community Arts may attend. An exhibit of photography, "Scenes, Near and Far", is planned for April.
