Adults (18 years and older)

“Join us at Community Arts of Elmira for an afternoon workshop to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of National Poetry Month. We will read and discuss a sampling of poems and then participate in writing exercises to generate new work. Open to adults (18 years and older) who love language and would like to explore the poetic form. We even supply the tools of the trade!”

Margaret K. Menges

Workshop Facilitator, ARTiculation Founding Member and Community Arts Poet-in-Residence

Menges is a local poet and educator who has contributed to numerous literary journals and, most recently, authored the book Lament’s Grocery: Poetry of Elmira (FootHills Publishing 2010).

A Note About National Poetry Month

Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month is now held every April, when publishers, booksellers, literary organizations, libraries, schools and poets around the country band together to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture. Thousands of businesses and non-profit organizations participate through readings, festivals, book displays, workshops, and other events.

Forum Series
Presents
Art in Music

"CA Café is all about appreciating the arts. With music as our first
art to consider, we will combine direct experience (thanks to musicians
Ian & Joe Milliken) with reflective questions: Where does music come
from? How does music move and carry us so? How might we picture the
relationship between musician & music & muse? These and other
questions from the audience will provide us all with an opportunity to
grow in our awareness and appreciation of the particular artistic gift
music is to our community." Arthur ‘Skip’ Reed, Forum Series Moderator
