Basic Drawing is an exploration of graphite drawing as a fine arts medium. Areas covered will include one, two and three point perspective, various styles of contour line, value and texture applications. All work will be via direct object study and will involve man made objects and natural still life. Materials provided.
Black & White Photography Many people still consider Black and White Photography the ultimate form of photographic fine art. Explore black and white photography in both traditional film and digital images. This class will cover topics from image capture to development of a print. Discussions will include pre-visualization, image capturing techniques, film development, digital conversion from color files, using colored filters and various black and white printing options and papers. Materials for developing film will be provided; students should have either a digital SLR camera and or a film camera (a limited number of film cameras will be available for use during class sessions).
Framing & Matting This workshop covers techniques and practices relating to presenting your art work (photographs, paintings or drawings). Mat selection and cutting are presented as well as basic frame selection and construction. Class will culminate with students cutting a mat and mounting work. Mats and mat cutting tools provided; students can provide their own artwork (some samples will be provided for practice during class sessions).
Glass Fusing Create a piece of choice: pendant, earrings, wind chimes or sun catcher. Materials provided.
The History of Photography will entail a series of slide lectures tracing the development of various photographic technical and artistic trends from 1839 to present day. These lectures will be subdivided into four categories: 19th century documentary and pictorialism; straight photography; early to mid-twentieth century; photo journalism; and modern trends (abstraction, surrealism, and post modernism). No materials required.
Macro & Still Life Photography This workshop is an opportunity to learn, through hands-on-instruction, how to light, manipulate, and arrange found or collected objects into meaningful and presentable art. Students will learn to find pictures in seemingly ordinary objects. A guiding principal throughout the workshop will be searching for what to photograph and how to manipulate and photograph it. Students should have an SLR camera (film or digital) or a point and shoot camera capable of utilizing filters, a tripod will be helpful (a limited number are available for use during class time).
People & Animal Photography In this class students will learn how to make pictures that go beyond the average snapshot. We will explore all forms of people and animal photography with emphasis on graphic design and emotional connection. The class includes lighting instruction for both studio and natural light as well as discussions about equipment and accessories. Class will culminate with hands on practice with live models.
Printmaking will involve the production of Calligraphic Embossings (inkless etchings). The first two hour session will involve the production of a three dimensional negative plate, out of matt board and found materials. The second class will be the printing of these plates via an etching press, creating a three dimensional inkless relief print. Watercolor bleeds will also be demonstrated on the finished prints.
