Artist Statement

John Matoon is owner of B&C Photo, Inc. in Elmira, which is a full service camera shop and lab that originally opened in 1946. He has a BA in Art from Elmira College, and is also a photographer, potter, and a motion picture junky.

My involvement in the arts stems from birth; I use my experience in the business world to assist Community Arts with financial and operational matters. In the future, I would like to make a documentary film. “My work has always been charged with controversy so I would like to make a film addressing social conditioning.” I hopes to see a film-maker’s class at Community Arts and is looking forward to working with energetic artists who want to do something new.

Community Arts is a non-profit organization created to promote all forms of artistic expression by all members of the community.
Our mission is to provide performance and exhibition space to new and established artists, provide educational programs and activities,
create public awareness and encourage participation in and appreciation for all the arts.

Education programs funded, in part, by a grant courtesy of the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc.
